As the days get longer and the pace slows down, summer is the perfect time to take stock of your finances. Whether you’re planning a getaway or just enjoying the garden, a few simple steps now can help you feel more in control and better prepared for what’s ahead.
Here’s five ways to make your money work harder this summer:
- Review your subscriptions and spending – From streaming services to gym memberships, summer is a great time to check what you’re actually using. Cancel any unused subscriptions and redirect those savings into your emergency fund or investment plan.
- Plan for holiday costs without overspending – Set a realistic budget for your summer plans – whether it’s a staycation or a trip abroad. Consider using a prepaid card or a separate savings pot to avoid overspending.
- Invest early in the Tax Year – If you haven’t used your ISA allowance yet, summer is a great time to start. Invest early to benefit from tax free savings and give your money more time to grow. It also helps you avoid the last-minute rush in March!
Planning tip: Even small monthly contributions can make a big difference over time.
- Revisit your financial goals – Mid-year is a natural checkpoint. Are you still on track with your savings, retirement, or investment goals? Have you planned for any expected costs in the second half of this year? If not, now’s the time to adjust.
Planning Tip: Take some time to review your last Annual Customer Report to check if your investments are still suitable and on track. If you haven’t spoken to us recently, contact us on 0800 464 3079*, or request an appointment using the button below.
- Talk money with family – Summer barbeques and family get-togethers are a great opportunity to open up conversations about money – whether it’s helping children or grandchildren understand saving, or discussing your parents’ financial plans. You might have been doing this already but didn’t realise it!
Planning Tip: Don’t forget our Friends & Family Referral Scheme. Refer someone and you could both receive a £50 Amazon Gift Card. For more information please read our other article in this Newsletter.
