Could bringing your ISAs together give you a clear view of your investments?

When was the last time you reviewed where all your Stocks and Shares ISAs are held? Over time, it’s easy to build up investments with different providers. You may have opened an ISA several years ago, added to another in a different tax year or built up a mix of accounts as your circumstances have changed.

At first, that might not seem like a problem. However, if your ISAs are held across different providers, you may not have a clear view of how they are performing or whether they still match your plans. Multiple logins, separate statements and different fund choices can make it harder to see the overall picture.

Why scattered ISAs can make things harder to manage

Having multiple ISAs is not unusual and it’s not necessarily a concern in itself. The challenge is that older or scattered investments can become disconnected from your wider financial planning. If you only look at each account in isolation, it can be difficult to understand whether your investments are still working together in the way you need them to.

For example, you may have ISAs with different charging structures, investment ranges or levels of service. Some may be reviewed regularly, while others may have been left untouched for years. As your goals, attitude to risk and time horizon change, it is worth asking whether those existing investments still support what you want to achieve.

What does re-registering an ISA with AFP mean?

Re-registering an ISA usually means transferring eligible existing investments onto AFP’s platform while keeping them within the ISA wrapper, where this is possible and appropriate. This may allow the investments to remain invested during the transfer, but this will depend on the provider, the investment type and whether those investments are available on the receiving platform.

A clearer view of your investments

One of the main benefits of bringing your ISAs together is improved visibility. Instead of checking several providers separately, you can build a more consolidated view of what you hold, how your investments are performing and whether they still fit your financial plan.

This can make financial decisions feel more straightforward. With a clearer picture, it can be easier to spot gaps, overlaps or investments that no longer feel right for your current needs. It can also make future reviews more meaningful, because your financial planning manager can consider your ISA holdings alongside your wider plans.

Better reporting and ongoing support

Re-registering eligible investments into AFP’s platform can also help improve reporting. For example, those investments can be included in your Annual Customer Report, giving you better visibility of your progress in one place.

That reporting is not just useful paperwork. It can act as a practical prompt to reconnect with your financial plans, review whether your investments remain suitable and understand how your ISAs fit with your broader objectives.

There may also be charges and potential cost differences to consider. In some cases, consolidating investments may reduce overall costs, in others it may not. Costs should always be considered alongside service, investment choice, tax position, transfer implications and suitability.

What should you consider before taking action?

Re-registering an ISA should always be considered carefully. Some investments may not be available on the receiving platform, and there may be charges, restrictions or differences in investment options to review. The right decision will depend on your personal circumstances, the investments you hold and what you want your money to do for you.

That is why it can be helpful to speak to your financial planning manager before making any changes. A review can help you understand whether keeping your ISAs where they are, moving some of them, or bringing them together could be the most appropriate approach.

A practical next step

If your ISAs are spread across different providers, now could be a good time to review whether bringing them together would give you a clearer view of your investments.

Start by checking where your existing Stocks and Shares ISAs are held, how often you review them and whether you feel confident they still match your plans. If you are unsure, speak to your Financial Planning Manager to find out if re-registering could help simplify your financial plans and keep your investments aligned with your goals.
